First Post... GO ME!

Well since it looks as though I will NEVER get my website up and running in my lifetime, I guess I'll try this instead...

Mostly I'll be talking about life as I see it, happenings in my world, and projects I'm working on for those who wish to, to keep tabs on what I'm up to. I'll try not to be boring. I might even be witty now and again, but no guarantees.

So who am I?

I am a musician. I play a variety of instruments including Bass Guitar, Anglo-Saxon Lyre, Harp, Piano, Recorder, Pennywhistle, Hornpipe, Flute (though badly in my opinion), Ocarina, Bodhran and various other percussion... But my main instrument is VOICE.
I sing anything... whatever tickles my fancy at that moment. I just sing for singings sake. It makes me happy. I've sung everything from Rock to Opera, but I especially love folk, pop/rock and Elizabethan/Baroque...

I am an artist. I studied Fine Arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, concentrating mainly on Printmaking, Drawing and Painting (oils), but I also studied 3D design and ceramics. In the past I've worked as a graphic designer, Set/Scenic designer & painter, Set decorator, Costumer, Props maker for film/tv & theatre.
Later I also got into photography which I am finding I love, but I'm not fancy. No big expensive equipment here. Mostly I use a cheap point-and-shoot Nikon... and sometimes a friend's more expensive Canon something-or-other... Mostly I like shooting flowers and outdoors stuff.

I'm an actor. I've done a lot of theatre, musical theatre, opera and lately a lot of work as a background performer (fancy-talk for "extra") in the film/tv industry. In July I'll be playing 'Olivia' in a condensed version of Shakespeare's "12th Night, or As You Like It".

I'm a designer. I've designed mostly for Theatre and Film, everything from sets to costumes... and some graphic design as well.

I'm a medievalist & amateur historian. I am a card carrying member of the Society For Creative Anachronism (SCA) and a Viking/Norse re-creation group called Reik Felag Norse Culture Re-creation Society (Reik Felag for short). I'm especially interested in Norse life and most of my endeavours in the SCA (and obviously Reik Felag) are Viking-centric. Mostly I enjoy tablet/card weaving, hand sewing, enbroidery, cooking and especially researching and performing Medieval Scandinavian Folk Ballads. I'm even researching (and soon performing) a type of Swedish singing called "kulning", which is an ancient style of singing for herding animals.
In the SCA, I am known as Her Ladyship Sionann in Ui Fhlaithbheartaig, and Irish/Norse persona. I am apprenticed to Mistress Alisaundre ni Feidhleimeidh dal gCais and live in the Shire of Lionsdale, in the Principality of Tir Righ, in the Kingdom of An Tir.
In Reik Felag, I am known as Gala Haldene Eriksdottir, a Norse/Irish woman from roughly 1000ad, and living in Jorvik, England.

Other things I enjoy include cooking, sewing, painting, reading (mostly fantasy and historical fiction/non-fiction), watching movies (not into horror/gory movies or stupid frat-boy humour), sleeping, coffee with or without friends, tea, food, camping and light hiking, outdoors stuff, dogs and animals in general. I don't have cable so I don't watch TV for the most part (unless it is something someone downloaded for me or I've bought/borrowed seasons of) but when I do I enjoy Supernatural, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Big Bang Theory, Touch, History, Space and Discovery Channel.
I'm not a gamer, except for board games. I just never got into video/computer games... except maybe Rock Band, but that doesn't count :D
